Résumé

In this panoramic novel set in historic Guthrie, Oklahoma, someone is stalking Quarter Horse breeder Kellie Sutton, and the one person who can protect her is the man whose heart she broke 15 years ago. Horses and land hunger brew into a rip-roaring tale of depravity, deceit, and family tragedy in this suspenseful equestrian novel. A prize stallion savaged. A beautiful daughter snatched. An ex-husband with a dark side.
Will Sheriff Ed Campbell be able to put his broken heart aside and help the woman he never forgot?Equestrians and history buffs will love the setting, an historic ranch on the outskirts of Guthrie, Oklahoma-site of the first land rush of 1889. Not only is Kellie trying stop the villain who's trying to put her out of business, she's battling the encroaching real estate developers that are gobbling up every available acre of land.
As more horses are attacked, Kellie's desperation and heartbreak comes vividly to life as she fights an unknown enemy with nothing to lose.  The mystery unfolds on the scorched, drought-stricken fields between Kellie's ranch and the home she grew up in. Reviewers have good things to say about this equestrian novel. Author Marilyn Fisher writes, "...one of those horse books where the reader is taken over by the same mounting tension that the heroine feels.
Don't be surprised if once you get the book, you read until you find out everything, even if it is an all-nighter."International reviewer Red Haircrow says, "...the romantic factor was as poignant as anything I've ever felt when still caring for a former lover after choosing someone else..." proving that even men can relate to the mystery of romance. Bringing the charm of Guthrie, Oklahoma and its historic past right into the reader's lap, Toni Leland draws on a lifelong love of and experience with horses and equestrian fiction, finding just the right balance between the horse stories and the human elements.
