Résumé

Monsters come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes they look like everyday people, hiding in a suit and tie or uniform. They sit beside us in coffee shops and on subway trains. They masquerade as teachers, doctors, and clergy.  They can be our boss, our parent, or a friend.  They can be convincing and sympathetic, but their goal is to satisfy their own wants and needs. They manipulate us, gain our trust, and when we are vulnerable and unsuspecting, the monster is unleashed.
Monsters can be inconspicuous and lurk in the shadows. They can camouflage themselves and act as a friend until the right time. They can be an institution and say they are acting in our best interest.  Or the monster can be you. It can lay dormant inside you, waiting for the right situation to strike. And when it's over, the monster inside you will retreat. You'll be that really nice person that everyone thinks you are.
(Just like in 'Such a Nice Young Man')The monster may have a grand design. It can be larger than what you think. It can be an idea or a country with a specific goal. (Such as The Architects) It can corrupt your soul. It will not go away, and it will always be in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity and ready to pounce and turn you into a monster of its own liking. Such are the monsters in this book.
