Résumé

Billie Tawnzen loves chaos, especially when she can fix it. As the firstborn daughter, she has two full-time jobs: healing the industrial scars of the city as head of the Witch Council, and nurturing her family after the death of her father. She could handle it, until the Tree Guild decided to block her latest restoration by any means necessary. The guild's representative is exactly the kind of man Billie would love to take over her knee, but she needs to stay focused, and stick to flexing strictly at the negotiation table. Osias Oualalde is the son of a Master Tree Artisan who was the son of a Master Tree Artisan.
In fact, an Oualalde has held a seat on the Guild since its founding at the Regeneration. The mayor's witch haunts his fantasies, but he understands Detroit's root system better than anyone above ground, and the guild is counting on him. Osias longs to bend the knee to Billie's magnetism, but the city's generative future depends on his ability to either resist her at all costs, or convince the most powerful and desirable woman he's ever met that she's wrong.
