In a corner of the galaxy far far away, Dr. Cy Berger, operating the first interplanetary veterinary service, lands on an alien world where he and his assistant are tasked with saving a young dragon suffering from congenital heart disease. Daunted by the thought of cardiac surgery on a dragon, Berger has no choice but to try because the tyke's fire-breathing parents have promised him a place of honor at their dinner table-roasted, with an apple in his mouth-if their son dies.
