Lincoln Cooper is the most frustrating man I've ever met. A year ago, he relocated to Camden to be near his sister and her children. With the announcement of his new animal rescue, the town anticipated a partnership with the local vet clinic. To our surprise, Lincoln opted for a mobile vet from two hours away. He claimed selecting my clinic might strain the town's resources needed not only for household pets but also for livestock.
His apparent lack of understanding that such a contract would boost local employment hinted at a disregard for our community. He seemed like just another big city checkbook. Camden had dealt with its share of such individuals, and I not-so-secretly hoped Lincoln would realize that small-town life wasn't for him. Fate had other plans. When the biggest snowstorm the valley had experienced in over a decade arrived a day early, I found myself snowed in with Lincoln after assisting with an emergency puppy delivery.
The last person I wanted to be stuck with for the next three days was Lincoln Cooper. My strategy for surviving the winter storm involved staying close to the fire, reading, and ignoring the man who wouldn't stop staring at me. As the snow continued to fall, I discovered that Lincoln wasn't as easy to dismiss as I had hoped. Despite my initial reservations, he revealed a humorous, charismatic, and genuinely kind side I'd never noticed before.
Perhaps being snowed in for the weekend would provide us with an opportunity to prove that first impressions aren't always accurate.
