It's July 1958 and Mrs. Grace Randall is spending her fortieth birthday alone. Her daughters are now grown with lives of their own and her husband isn't even pretending that he hasn't abandoned her. On a whim, she blows out her solitary birthday candle and makes a wish. When a young man answers her ad for help around the house, she thinks for a moment that her wish has come true. But despite what his tall, muscular body stirs inside her, at twenty years old, he is much too young for her.
As she watches him fix her garden shed, Grace's resolve to keep her distance from him crumbles. Being with him would be so wrong, but deep down she knows it would feel so right.
