She also has some unexpected secrets that slowly get revealed when she's one of the first to learn of Kiernan's predicament. While she does accept Kiernan's issues with his male identity, Anya hadn't anticipated the possibility that she'd become so close to him that he'd reach out to her when he got into trouble.
Not only that, but she's too familiar with the area he wound up in for comfort. It is where her trauma has driven her out to try and overcome her past. Now, she not only has to face her past, but she'll have to decide whether to become deeply involved with Kiernan and the others or remain a superficial acquaintance that is only good for the occasional chitchat in passing.
