Résumé

Amidst the devastation of World War I, a young American woman named Abigale Belorman discovers a profound calling: to restore hope to the WWI wounded soldiers. In France they were called 'Gueules Cassees', or 'Broken Faces'. Using her sculpting skills, she begins crafting intricate masks that conceal the scars of war, offering a semblance of normalcy to those who have endured unimaginable suffering.
Colm Harp, a skilled metalsmith, is driven by his own wounds and a personal tragedy to join Abigale's mission. His younger brother, Danny, has returned from the war with devastating facial injuries, and Colm is determined to give him a chance at a life worth living. Together, Colm and Abigale embark on a journey of compassion and resilience, their work becoming a beacon of hope for countless wounded soldiers.
As they navigate the challenges of war-torn Europe and the limitations of early 20th-century medicine, Abigale and Colm discover the transformative power of human will. Their story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, the enduring power of love, and the extraordinary lengths people will go to make a difference in the world. War changes all their lives, but if you can improve one person's life, is yours not for the better? What if you could help hundreds? What would you give up?

À propos des auteurs

Chris Karlsen is a retired police detective. She spent twenty-five years in law enforcement with two different agencies. The daughter of a history professor and a voracious reader, she grew up with a love of history and books. An internationally published author, Chris has traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Near East, and North Africa satisfying her need to visit the places she read about.
Having spent a great deal of time in England, Wales, and Turkey, she has used her love of both places as settings for her books. Heroes Live Forever, which is her debut book, is set in England as are the rest in her Knights in Time series. Other books in the series are Journey in Time, Knight Blindness, Losing Time, and In Time for You. They are historical romances. Golden Chariot and Byzantine Gold are set Turkey, Paris and Cyprus.
They are part of her Dangerous Waters series, a contemporary thriller set. She has since started two other series, The Bloodstone Series. It is a historical suspense set in Victorian London. The stories are built around her Victorian detective, Rudyard Bloodstone. Those books are: Silk, Snifter of Death, A Venomous Love, and Choosing Heart or Home. Between new stories for the Bloodstone series, Chris has started another historical romance series the Love & War series.
Book one in the series is set in World War 2 England called The Ack Ack Girl. Excerpts, trailers, sample chapters, and newsletter info are available on her website or she can be contacted at: chriskarlsenwriter@gmail.com. Published by Books to Go Now, her novels are available in digital, ebook, and Android App. and in paperback on most platforms. Several are also available in audio. Jennifer Conner is a best-selling Northwest author who has seventy short stories, books, and audiobooks.

Jennifer is an Associate Publisher for the indie traditional publisher, Books to Go Now who resides in the Seattle area.
They pride themselves in helping new authors get their foot in the door with well-edited manuscripts, professional covers, and platforms uploads. She lives in a hundred-year-old house that she grew up in. Her semi-small town holds an interesting mix of resident hillbillies, yuppies and Navy Seals. And of course, Seattle, only a few miles away, is the birthplace of Starbucks so coffee is always on the check list.
She blows glass beads with a blowtorch, (which relieves a lot of stress and people don't bother you) and is a huge fan of musicals. She loves to hear from her readers.
