Mark Bender is the most decorated soldier Australia has ever seen. Awarded the Victoria Cross and the prestigious OAM, his military career disintegrated after a botched covert mission in Syria. Five years later, Bender lives as a recluse in his high-rise Sydney apartment, managing chronic PTSD with medicinal cannabis, and pumping iron in his home gym. When Bender's twin sister finds out his high school sweetheart, Zoey Armstrong, has gone missing, she asks Bender to find her.
What ensues is a descent into the heart of darkness, where Bender comes face to face with the bogeyman of his past. Pitted against egomaniacs, deviant celebrities, and devotees of an arcane practice, Bender is about to learn nothing is what it seems.
