Résumé

A magical key opens the way to the Rainbow Path, seven interdimensional lands with all sorts of bizarre and wonderful problems. This collection of six plays includes sequels and prequels of chocolate frogs and singing cats, fireflies, shape-shifting dolphins, and a phoenix-ex-machina. Originally written for The Imaginorium School of Theatrical Wizardry, an immersive theatre summer camp, by Headmistress Iris Imaginoria, these six plays are sure to take you on a journey there and back again.
The plays were originally written and performed with students ages 8-15 but can be equally enjoyed by adults. With LGBTQA+ and neurodivergent themes, along with mythology from several cultures, these plays show that all are welcome on the Rainbow Path. The Plays:1. Key to the Rainbow Path (2017): First, you will meet Iris Imaginoria, a young seeker of mystery and magic. Key to the Rainbow Path tells her "Coming of Age" story.
It also opens the entire world of the Rainbow Path and introduces all interdimensional lands. If less is more, Iris wants more to be more, and that sometimes means that there are three actors playing Iris at the same time.2. The Light of Joy (2018): The Light of Joy balances the twins Felix and Felicity, complete opposites, as they strive to create a luck charm and bring light back to the Land of Joy.
Felix is highly superstitious, while Felicity rarely takes anything seriously, especially her brother. A group of Mythicals, which included an oversized Rabbit, a Dryad, a Naiad, a Leprechaun, a Ladybug, and a Flying Cat, lured them into this quest. Things are never quite what they appear.3. Phoebe Phoenixfire and the Onethings (2019): For Phoebe, life is a never-ending series of choices, and she hates making choices.
It especially frustrates her when her teacher, Ms. Asher, announces that fifth graders get to choose their own elective classes. Phoebe goes on a hunt through different activities she could try but does not feel like any of them fit... and some of them haunt her, turning into little feathered monsters. Will she ever find the "One thing" that makes her unique? Or could that be "something" else entirely? In Phoebe Phoenixfire and the Onethings we learn that if it isn't "One thing, " it's often another.4.
The Frogpocalypse and the Chocolate Flies (Winter 2021): You can catch more frogs with flies than with honey. But you can catch more chocolate frogs with chocolate flies. That's what Wendy Windhorse learns in The Frogpocalypse and the Chocolate Flies. This prequel shows the advent of the Frogpocalypse in Cloud Country and the feud between Wendy Windhorse and Jackson Jumpingbean.5. Captain Bob and the Dolphin Diaspora (Summer 2021): Captain Bob and the Dolphin Diaspora takes place in the prehistory of the Rainbow Path.
Dionysus creates a "diaspora" of pirates, defined as the "involuntary dispersion of a group of people." The eight different pirates on the pirate ship Septimus want drastically different things. This story is based on an actual myth of Dionysus being taken prisoner by pirates and subsequently transforming them into dolphins. As the god of theatre and transformation, Dionysus is an interesting and powerful patron.
This play especially highlights gender and pronoun problems.6. The Cat-Tastrophe in the Land of Fire (Winter 2021): The final and most recent play in this collection, The Cat-Tastrophe in the Land of Fire, is the most immediate sequel to the book Imagine the Key. Iris's girlfriend, Amaya, goes on her own journey through all seven Rainbow Path lands. But her unintentional spell has some pretty big consequences.
