Résumé

It's the story of Aristotle Archimedes James (thankfully nicknamed Ari by his Grandmother), who struggles through childhood, conscious that he is the progeny of distracted intelligentsia. He becomes a mildly boorish sceptic until he meets Justine at university and battles to temper his desire to be right, with his need to relate. University provided opportunities for him to excel in the academic life, but this was entirely unfulfilling.
It also provided another encounter with people who had a spiritual dimension to their life. The questions they raised diverted him from his desire to disparage their beliefs. After some issues with Justine's turn to faith, he stumbles aimlessly into a job for a fast rising political star. The story continues to track Ari's experiences as he becomes aware of a plot against a photographer acquaintance, but he was too late to save her.
However he did obtain a copy of the photos that somehow incriminated Thomas McLeish MP. He then flees for safety, almost suffering a similar fate. Hospitalised and terrified that next time his pursuers would be successful in eliminating him, Ari stumbled on the idea that 'being dead' might be the safest condition to be in. A policeman, initially alerted by Ari's tip off, had tracked the events to the photographer's death.
Recognising that the series of events were far too suspicious for her death to be accidental, Detective Meadows traced Ari's location through a police report of his 'accident'. He is reacquainted with his friend Reece and then, after barely escaping detection by some thugs who wanted to ensure his demise, he made some unfortunate choices about staging his own funeral. Now confronting his mortality Ari becomes reflective about a life of faith.

À propos de l'auteur

Biographie de Anthony Van

What does a retired teacher do? Especially a teacher with a hyperactive imagination and ingrained work habits. Well this one writes. And being a Christian, each novel I have written necessarily is pieced together from a Christian perspective. I have a broad range of interests which include science and technology, mathematics, travel, sports and the interrelationship of people. Much of what intrigues me about people is that some pursue truth with the determination of a bloodhound while others almost ignore existential ideas and while away their short time spent on earth being distracted by people or pleasures or possessions or power.
Writing is a hobby. It allows me to research and self educate, and it also permits me to refine my perspectives of concepts existential and theological.
