At the end of the war with the nonborns of Never Death, the virtuals of Screenside find themselves permanently in possession of many chip-disabled and body-farmed humans, which are effectively bodies with no one in them. This situation allows them to live for themselves in those bodies, which have come just in time to serve some purposes that Screenside could not have gone for in regular possessed humans.
