Résumé

After spending a drink and drug fueled erotic night with Stan Taylor and Jack Jones, Theresa Hogan is horrified to learn she is pregnant and leaves Manchester University to return home to her wealthy parents in Dublin and an agonizing nine month wait to see the color of her newborn's skin. Join Jack Jones on his arduous but enlightening journey through cultivation and the turmoil his past brings him in the form of Stan, a violent and feared gangster from Manchester, England.
The black and white duo, Stan and Jack, behaved like princes of Manchester partying, drug dealing, extorting businesses and sleeping with as many women as they could but that was twenty-five years ago. The collapse of the family gambling and nightclub business and the main source of his income forced Jack to leave his hedonistic and lawless lifestyle including the characters that populated it. Finding himself broke Jack moved out of the city and enrolled in a government sponsored programming course.
After some years he managed to turn his life around and eventually secured a lucrative I. T. contract in Vienna. Jack settled there, married Nora, an Austrian professor, had a daughter and became a Falun Dafa practitioner. When he gets a call from Stan, whom he has not heard from in over twenty years, Jack is horrified to hear Stan needs to stay in Vienna for a few days and expects Jack to host him.
While in Vienna to transact a major drug deal with Russian Mafia Stan's life is turned upside-down when he inadvertently witnesses some very strange phenomena while watching Jack perform his exercises and discovers an unwelcome conscience he never knew he had. This experience and merely being in the presence of Jack causes him to reconsider the way he leads his life. After executing the drug deal in Vienna with the Russians Stan returns to England and while finalizing the transaction with the them in London Stan is put through the most physically painful and mentally degrading experience he has ever endured.
Since Jack had a very calming and beneficial effect on Stan in Vienna, Stan is desparate to reach out to Jack and Falun Dafa for some kind of solace but Jack refuses to host Stan again. On his twenty-fifth birthday Rory Hogan asks his mother, Theresa, who his father is. Although he had asked years before, circumstances did not allow Theresa to divulge the information but now she has no choice. Unable to locate Jack, Rory employs the services of a private detective in Manchester who actually knew of Jack and Stan in the heyday of their nightlife.
Also unable to locate Jack the detective contacts Stan in the knowledge that Stan was close to and often looked after Jack when they considered themselves princes of Manchester over twenty years ago. Stan sees Rory as his ticket to meet with Jack in a coercive way but Rory turns the tables on Stan. Despite this things turn out in Stan's favor but, due to his new found conscience, his relief is short-lived on this planet.
