Résumé

Harold was a boy born in poverty to a family that rejected him. He runs away and lives on the street. All his life he is looking for love. He finds someone but they die, he thinks that a prostitute loves him, when he realizes she only does sex for money he finds an innocent woman and rapes her, she dies. He runs away to London where he establishes a happy life, , finds someone who loves him. She refuses to have sex and he beats her up.
Arrested the police discover his murder charge.. Found guilty he goes to jail. In jail he establshes himself with the Boss and has a good time. On release he gets involved with a gang of robbers. Back to jail, this time not so pleasant. On his release he looks for work on the farm, the employer wont pay him his wages so he beats him up and leaves. Once more he finds work in Ipswich and sees a middle aged woman who he thinks would make a good wife.
she is unhappy in her marriage and when Harold kidnaps her she is not too unhappy. They find happiness in Yorkshire. They inherit the farm and enjoy years of happy life. Her son finds them and gets Harold arrested. She denies that Harold kidnapped her. Found not guility he still has to go to prison to complete his sentence. On leaving prison he finds her waiting with the villagers and they get married.
