This is a famous festival celebrated all over India being called by the names 'Ho?aka', 'Holika', 'Holi', 'Phalgunika' 'Vasantotsava' and 'Kamanahabba' etc. Though there are differences regarding the day of observance and the modalities, it is celebrated throughout India. Though in some places the celebration is begun on Vasantapañcami. (i.e. Magha Sukla Pancami) it is specially celebrated on the day of Phalgu?a-Pur?ima only.
Activities like burning of a pile of fire wood, (splashing) of rose colored water, dancing with happiness and excitement etc, are generally seen in all places. Only in the Bengal region the custom of performing 'Dolotsava' on that day to Lord K?sh?a is in vogue.
