When Victoria Scott, a high school senior with a bright future is struck by a rare form of bone cancer she undergoes a controversial and invasive treatment. Instead of chemotherapy, her spine is removed and replaced by a sophisticated, robotic prosthetic with an A. I. that plugs directly into her brain stem. The funding for the research and implementation of the technology has wide ranging sources that vary in legality and intent, some of them wishing to collect the results for their own purposes.
