After a long teaching session in the Tampa area, I got on a jet home to San Diego. Being the only passenger in First Class, I had the stew all to myself. As it turned out, she had some interesting ideas of her own. After joining the Mile High Club, all too soon, the flight was on the ground in Houston, and I needed to change planes to get home to San Diego. We exchanged addresses and phone numbers for what we hoped would be future meetings.
Sadly, it didn't work out that way. After many attempts on both of our parts, we were never able to hook up again, but it's not for lack of effort, as noted in "The Letter." Things just seemed to conspire against us. The second half of the book is the dream ... the way I'd have far preferred the story to go, but alas, life didn't work out that way. Life is like that. Part genuine, part absolute fantasy, it's a fun short story about joining the Mile High Club and a dream about how life could have been.
