Résumé

San Francisco is in ruins - but can the worst disaster the city has ever known cover up a murder? On a quiet morning in April 1906, an earthquake of horrendous magnitude shook one of America's most vibrant and vivacious cities. Buildings crumbled to the ground. Fires destroyed everything from the dilapidated buildings of South of Market to the mansions of Nob Hill. Nearly eighty percent of the city is leveled. Elsie Blessings, rabid suffragist and reformer, calls her friend Adele Gossling to her side to help destitute women and children in the Presidio's refugee camp while San Francisco begins the slow process of rebuilding.
Adele's brother, Jackson, and Sheriff Hatfield accompany her at the request of army and police friends who desperately need volunteers to help maintain law and order amidst the chaos of the ruined city. The one thing nobody counted on was that, while citizens come together to pick up the pieces of their city among the rubble, someone thinks it's just the right time for murder. Can Adele and her aura-reading friend Nin Branch help solve the crime of a dead woman with only a jade pendant, a fan, and a cryptic note to go on?Pick up your copy of this engaging mystery set during one of California's most devastating tragedies!~~~Don't forget to check out the other books in the Adele Gossling Mysteries!

À propos de l'auteur

Biographie de Tam May

Writing has been Tam May's voice since the age of fourteen. She writes stories set in the past that feature sassy and sensitive women characters. Her fiction gives readers a sense of justice for women, both the living and the dead. Tam's stories are set mostly around the Bay Area because she adores sourdough bread, Ghirardelli chocolate, and San Francisco history. Tam is the author of the Adele Gossling Mysteries which take place in the early 20th century and features suffragist and epistolary expert Adele Gossling whose talent for solving crimes doesn't sit well with the town's more conventional ideas about women's place. Tam has also written historical fiction about women breaking loose from the social and psychological expectations of their era.
She has a 4-book historical coming-of-age series set in the 1890s titled the Waxwood Series and a post-World War II short story collection available. Although Tam left her heart in San Francisco, she lives in the Midwest because it's cheaper. When she's not writing, she's devouring everything classic (books, films, art, music) and concocting yummy vegan dishes.
