Résumé

"Organ Stops Demystified: An Essential Handbook for Players and Enthusiasts" is a quick and informative guide to understanding the individual sets of pipes on an organ that produce a distinct tone, known as "stops." The book begins with an introduction to organ stops, including a brief history and the importance of understanding and utilizing them in organ playing. It then delves into the anatomy of the organ, describing the different parts and how the instrument works. The following chapters focus on playing techniques, basic tips for beginners, and an introduction to stops, including how they work and the different types of stops available.
These types include Foundation Stops, Flute Stops, Reed Stops, and String Stops, and each is explained in detail with examples of music that use them. The book also covers other important aspects of playing the organ, such as the Combination Action, Couplers, Expression Pedals, Tremulants, Swell Boxes, Vox Humana, and Pedal Board, with explanations of how to use each one. To help players master the use of organ stops, the book provides tips for playing music with stops, examples of music that demonstrate their use, and guidance on how to register for different genres, such as classical music, jazz, and contemporary worship. Finally, the book concludes with chapters on basic organ maintenance and tuning, as well as how to register for a performance and examples of organ registration in performance. Overall, "Organ Stops Demystified: An Essential Handbook for Players and Enthusiasts" is a great resource for anyone interested in playing the organ, providing a comprehensive and accessible guide to understanding and utilizing the many different stops available on the instrument.
