The book, Oscar the Great, explores complex themes in a simple manner. It is designed for ages 12 and up and intended to teach children collective nouns regarding birds in a single narrative. However, there is a latent message in this book as it promotes good morals through lessons of leadership, courage, and human rights. It does this through a plot of conspiracy against the backdrop of a divided and oppressive society.
Despite this complex theme and twisted plot families can come together and enjoy this rather sombre book and leave with something to discuss.
