Résumé

A plain Jayne, suffering with near-sightedness, and crooked teeth, has a bad case of low self-esteem. Boys jeer at her, and girls giggle behind her back. It was like that the entire time she was in school. To compensate she worked diligently at her studies, and it paid off when she got a scholarship to a college along the Gulf Coast despite her change of venue, she is still treated like a plain Jayne even there.
When Jayne registers and is assigned her dorm, her heart sinks when she discovers that her roommate April, is a stunningly beautiful cheerleader. To Jayne, April is everything Jayne is not and even though Jayne finds her a turn-on she convinces herself that her semester with the sexy blonde is going to be a long one. The cute cheerleader is quite friendly to Jayne, something that confuses her. To make matters more puzzling April asks Jayne to go to dinner with her and they have a very pleasant time together.
When they get back to their dorm, April treats Jayne like her equal, and they laugh and carry on and chat through the night like lifelong friends. April over the next several weeks takes Jayne under her wing and involves her in a lot of campus activities. The side effect of this development is that Jayne starts to get a crush on the cute cheerleader. Jayne is very careful to show too much affection fearing April will be offended and get Jayne expelled.
But one night during one of their bedtime talks, April calls Jayne 'sweetheart' leaving the plain Jayne stunned. But she learns that maybe her attraction to April isn't just one way.
