Résumé

Though he may well be an undertaker, Elijah Stern is a man of culture. When he learns that his supply of literature has dried up he decides to ride out from his small town to Kansas City, where he knows there is a small bookstore, in order to satisfy his reading addiction. A simple task, right? Wrong. No sooner does he arrive when he is mugged. In his efforts to track down his attackers, Stern will cross paths with old friends, new enemies, and, even worse, his ex-wife...

À propos des auteurs

Born in Castres in 1979 and exposed from an early age to his father's collection of Franco-Belgian classics, Frédéric Maffre was destined to become a part of the comics world. During his teenage years he began to write his own stories, developing an interest for the cinema as well. After earning a master's degree in English, he moved to Paris in 2002, getting involved in various kinds of artistic projects and learning to write a great story the hard way through his late-night writing sessions.
He finally found the winning formula when he pulled an old story idea out of his drawers and submitted it to his brother Julien. After being completely re-worked, the idea would eventually be transformed into the groundbreaking series 'Stern, ' published in 2015 by Dargaud (Europe Comics in English, 2017). Julien Maffre was born in Castres in southern France in 1981. After studying the fine arts in Perpignan, he joined the Sanzot workshop in Angouleme in 2006, where he learned about the comics profession alongside Jean-Luc Loyer, Cécile Chicault, Mazan, and Jean-Christophe Fournier, among others.
He also met Isabelle Dethan, with whom he would go on to create the historical adventure series 'Le Tombeau d'Alexandre' (Delcourt), which takes place in 19th century Egypt. Julien later switched to the Marquis workshop in 2010, still in Angouleme, where he collaborated with authors Pierre Boisserie and Philippe Guillaume on the series 'La Banque, ' this time with Dargaud. Influenced by old and new artists alike, Julien has developed a style all his own, which he has put to full use on the striking new series 'Stern' (Dargaud, Europe Comics in English), a western unlike any other that he is working on with his brother, Frédéric Maffre.
