GRAMSCIAN DOSSIERINTRODUCTIONThe THEORY OF THE STATE IN MARX AND ENGELS is based on four CHARACTERISTICS1- The State as a COERCIVE APPARATUS, 2-as CLASS DOMAIN, 3- as MOMENT SECONDARY and subordinate with respect to civil society and, 4- as a TRANSITORY INSTITUTION and not permanent. Contrary to pre-Marxist authors, progress is not on the path that goes from society to the State but rather THE STATE MUST BE SUPPRESSED, reabsorbed by society.
While in Marx the idea of the State appears more strongly as coercion and conflict, Gramsci will highlight, without eliminating this, the aspects linked to the ideology and consensus, especially the issue of hegemony.
