Résumé

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 Imposter syndrome is a pattern of behavior where people, even those with adequate external evidence of success, doubt their abilities and have a persistent fear of being exposed as a fraud. It can lead to a cycle of self-defeating behavior. #2 To master imposter syndrome, and to describe yourself in positive rather than self-deprecating terms, is critical for achieving power and success.
If you do not believe you are powerful and competent, you will not project this belief to others. #3 The first rule of power is to get out of your own way. It is possible to do so. For example, at Stanford, we grade in part on class participation. Invariably at the start of the quarter, a few people will come to me and tell me that they are uncomfortable participating in class discussions. #4 The game is not always fair, and people of privilege should be prepared to look out for themselves.
Self-awareness about the obstacles you will face and how you will have to play the game differently if you want to be successful is a crucial skill.
