The Methodology Of "The Capital"Mandel begins by saying that when Marx wrote "Capital" only A SMALL PART OF HUMANITY LIVED IN CAPITALIST CONDITIONS. The rest of the world was a huge ocean of peasants and artisans. Mandel affirms that TODAY THIS HAS CHANGED, that capitalist industry and technology have expanded enormously. Also the CONTRADICTIONS BETWEEN CAPITAL AND LABOR HAVE BEEN UNIVERSALIZED.
More and more people are wage earners working for fewer and fewer owners. Mandel mentions the frequent fact that, periodically, "new" theories appear that affirm that "capitalism definitively overcame its crises", that "if there was a crisis before, in the future there will be no more". But despite the various remedies that the bourgeoisie has resorted to (Keynesians, neoliberals), Mandel believes that CAPITALISM IS TENDERING TODAY TO HAVE MORE CRISIS THAN IN THE TIME OF MARX.
