Résumé

After being admitted to a psych unit after declaring his hatred for his Chairman of Board for mass layoffs, Samuel is diagnosed as a workaholic with no spirituality. After searching the entire unit for a bible with no avail, he finds old TIME magazines scattered throughout the unit. Samuel finds a TIME with Ronald Reagan on the cover and discovers his concept of a "Shining City on a Hill" and "The Sermon on the Mount." He then embarks on a roller coaster ride through the 80's fueled by information he continues to find in TIME.
Eventually he discovers layoffs were caused by the havoc caused by the poor implementation of Reaganomics and tax cuts. Samuel Wilson found himself deeply discontented with the state of the world. His frustration led him to seek solace and understanding through psychotherapy, where he spent several sessions "on the couch" with a psychotherapist, delving into his emotions. This transformative experience sparked a profound curiosity within him, compelling him to become a Sigmund Freud wannabe, eager to explore the inner lives of pivotal historical figures to find solutions to contemporary problems. Driven by this quest, Samuel embarked on a unique journey, inviting the wisdom and perspectives of God, Jesus Christ, Abraham, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Harry Truman into his consciousness.
In September 1981, these illustrious figures became the "Voices in His Head, " guiding and challenging him for the past forty years. Through these internal dialogues, Samuel has explored the spectrum of human emotions-happiness, sadness, disgust, contempt, anger, and surprise-of his Dream Team. In The Battle for the Soul of the Nation, God, Jesus Christ, Abraham, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Harry Truman , the  "Voices in His Head" for the past forty years, explore the sad state of democracy today.
Samuel has explored the happiness, sadness, disgust, contempt. anger, and surprise of his Dream Team of spiritual and historical icons.
