In this sequel to The Back Wing, Harold McCaffrey realizesthat it is his three month anniversary at Mountain SplendorRetirement Home. Harold helps at an open house by takingnames for a waiting list of people wanting to move into theFront Wing of the facility. Afterwards, there is commotionand a dead body is found in the lobby. With the help ofhis witchy girlfriend, Bella Alred, and some other unusualresidents, Harold must solve the mystery of why the peopleon Mountain Splendor's waiting list are turning up dead.
