When one joins the Boy Scouts, one of the requirements is to do a good deed every day. But that's not as easy as it sounds. Things go wrong. Stuff doesn't turn out like you thought it would. Sometimes people aren't happy with you. Bobby had that problem. Every time he tried to do a good deed, it always seemed to get screwed up somehow. It happened to him for years, until he finally succeeded in doing something that turned out the way it was supposed to.
And finally, he made someone happy - a woman named Gloria. So he went back and did more good deeds for Gloria, who was grateful. And Bobby and Gloria formed a friendship, of sorts, as she saved up good deeds for him to do and he visited her regularly to do them. She even tried to pay him, but of course he couldn't take the money. Good deeds were done at no charge. And you don't brag about doing good deeds either ...
which is why nobody else in town knew what Bobby was doing for Gloria Wilson ... or how much time he was spending in her company. And that was fortunate, because Gloria was a divorced woman and, in the minds of the women in town ... including Bobby's mother ... that made her a sexual predator. Which is how a woman who almost nobody in town would even speak to, ended up being befriended by a young man who treated her with respect, and dignity, and did nice things for her.
Which is why she decided to do some good deeds for Bobby too. They were things his mother would have expected her to do, as a matter of fact. It all sounds so serious, but it wasn't like that at all. Come along on a hilarious coming-of-age romp as Bobby grows up and finds out that life consists of joy, and pain, awe and heartache, tension and, most of all, love. Warning: This book deals with adult themes and uses adult language.
