Julia needs extra qualifications for teaching. She supported her ex-boyfriend when he worked toward his MA and he was then supposed to support her. Julia finds him in bed with someone else. A lecturer accompanies each tour. Julia's tours go well and Claudia is her main contact at headquarters.
Julia realizes Claudia doesn't like her and Julia finds it's because she is after Roark Ellis, who is the lecturer on Julia's next tour. Roark is divorced and not looking for a replacement. Julia's uncomplicated honesty impresses Roark and she likes him. Claudia is troubled. Julia and Roark meet up on another tour and their friendship grows. One day Roark kisses her. He's mad at himself, and Julia is mad about his reaction.
She swims through a haze of new feelings. She and Roark part and go their separate ways until, one day, Julia meets Roark with two women who he introduces as his 'sister and Fiona'. Julia meets Claudia, who tells Julia that Roark's ex-wife has returned and is hoping for reconciliation.
