This book continues the story of "Flight from Tymer" After arriving at Niatheo and discovering the Valmyke blockade surrounding the planet, Atticus, Nariel and the rest of the crew are forced to evade a Xenon assassin as they attempt to reach remote coordinates in the jungles of the planet which they've been sent by a mysterious source. They arrive at a Tal'avi camp, the tribespeople of the planet, where they discover the King has survived and is plotting a resistance plan to infiltrate the royal palace and broadcast a message to the enslaved populace.
The night before the plan is to go into motion, the Tal'avi throw a Harvest festival celebration that gives Atticus and Nariel a chance to sneak away from the rest of the group. The Xenon assassin finds them, destroying the jungle treehouse, and sending Atticus and Nariel falling into a rushing river. The following morning, they awake on the riverside just outside the walls of the capital city, where Atticus must defend Nariel in a life or death fight.
