When the day of the parade dawns at last, Kathleen can barely contain her excitement. She and Tabitha, her beloved Labrador puppy, are head and tail above the rest of the puppy training class, in Kathleen's opinion, and are sure to be the stars of the class parade through the village, and subsequent training demonstration beside the lake. Not only will the day be great practise for Tabitha's upcoming Canine Good Citizen test, it will also show Mrs Mullins, and the rest of the church floral committee (of which Kathleen was the head until recently), a thing or two.
About what, Kathleen couldn't quite say, but she had nevertheless played through the events of the day countless times in her head, imagined every detail: the "Oohs!", the "Aahs!", the congratulations, the admiration. The day has finally arrived, but perhaps it would not unfold in precisely the way that Kathleen had imagined.
