Résumé

This moving story explores how World War I affected not only men at the Front but also their loved ones at home, who were unable to understand what they were going through. Edmund and Lilian Potter live in the Devonshire village of Halberton. In August 1914 Edmund is among the first eager volunteers to enlist, to Lilian's dismay. Their marriage is tested to the limit as the war progresses and Edmund suffers neurasthenia and later disabling wounds at the Somme.
The Potters of Halberton is a compelling tale of love and loss, jealousy and anger, magnanimity and denial as Edmund and Lilian are compelled to face uncomfortable truths in a world that is changing for ever.
