As a child, Étienne, was terribly abused by both his parents. Due to this he lost most of his hearing. But an aunt of his and his eldest sister, to him, were his heroes. At his very young age, Étienne made his mind that he must emigrate and leave his motherland. On coming of age, this, Étienne did. This was so not just to better his life and his future, but because he also wanted to get away from his own family.
However, there were things that he couldn't get away from - memories that led to his hard of hearing - The SCAR.
