Résumé

The story follows John Bennett, a loving husband and father who works as an engineer to support his family - his wife Grace, a compassionate nurse, and their daughter Emma, who is about to start a nursing internship. Tragedy strikes when a drunk driver crashes into Grace and Emma's car, killing Grace instantly. Emma is rushed to the hospital where she had just completed her internship, but succumbs to her injuries.
However, as an organ donor, Emma's selfless decision saves the lives of several people, including 16-year-old David Carter who receives her heart. Shattered by grief, John quits his job and sets out on a bicycle journey to find the recipients of Emma's organs, especially David. Along the way, he meets people who share their own stories of loss and hope, and finds solace in their experiences. When John finally meets David, he feels an instant connection to the young man who carries a part of Emma.
They bond over shared memories and the profound impact of Emma's gift. Inspired, John starts the Emma Bennett Foundation to support organ donation. Over the years, the foundation grows and touches countless lives. David also thrives with his second chance, becoming a cardiologist to honor Emma. Though John continues to grieve Grace and Emma, he finds renewed purpose in carrying forward Emma's legacy of compassion.
The novel poignantly explores the threads of love, loss, hope and resilience that bind us together. It is an emotionally resonant story of how one selfless act can create ripples that touch many lives, and how the human spirit can find healing and meaning even after unspeakable tragedy. Through organ donation, Emma's spirit lives on, weaving John, David and many others into a tapestry of interconnected lives and love that transcends death.
