When Gertie's old friend--and fellow teacher--Carlotta dies, she leaves Gertie some old letters from the pen pal program they worked on together. Gertie is certain that one of the letters contains a secret message leading to a hidden treasure in Desperado, Texas. She convinces Ida Belle and Fortune that it's not just a fantasy, and the three set out on a treasure hunt adventure. But when someone steals the letter they know they aren't the only ones looking for the loot.
