Did you know that gas stations gave away dyed chicks at Easter time - purple, green, you name it? Or that vendors traveled to neighborhoods to sell vegetables and fish from their trucks, that scores of neighborhood kids got together on the streets at night to play hide and seek, red light-green light, or one potato two potato? That the "tax man" came to your door and sat down to go over taxable items in your house? And doctors actually did pay house calls, charging only what they thought the family could afford? Such was the working class neighborhood in which I lived.and I wouldn't trade the experiences for anything.
