He thinks it fate that they're united at a time when he seeks peace between the hunters and vampires.

Thalos needs to retrieve a tool from a sacred island that only a mortal can reach. However, it's important to vampirekind that the hunters never learn about this island. His only choice is to put Dusty in a trance. Thalos can't stand the idea of betraying Dusty's trust.
The fact that Dusty admits he plans to eventually kill Thalos isn't helping matters.
