How does the unconscious determine the rest of the psychic apparatus? This is a fundamental question to which - to answer it - Freud appeals to the study of the structure of the subject. The so-called "First Topography" and "Second Topography" are two models of the structure of the systems of the psyche: FIRST TOPOGRAPHY: UNCONSCIOUS, PRECONSCIOUS AND CONSCIOUSNESS. SECOND TOPOGRAPHY: ID, EGO AND SUPEREGO.
REPRESSION is a force that prevents certain contents from entering the consciousness. All the contents of the Freudian unconscious are repressed contents. It thus differs from other concepts of the unconscious, in which the contents are unconscious not because of repression (for example, in Piaget).
