Résumé

In the heart of the African wilderness, some secrets are as deadly as a lion on the prowl... Maun, Botswana, 1989. Where the Kalahari's golden sands meet the Okavango Delta's lush wetlands, danger lurks in both. When Verity White is forced to relinquish her hard-won position as a magazine editor after her husband James loses his airline job in the bitter Australian Pilots' Dispute, the dusty frontier town of Maun is a jarring contrast to her sleek Melbourne office.
While James quickly finds fulfillment as a bush pilot in his childhood home, Verity's role as a hostess on an overland hunting safari pales in comparison to the professional triumph that had briefly bolstered her self-esteem. As Verity immerses herself in the untamed beauty of the African bush, she becomes entangled in a web of long-buried secrets and simmering tensions. At its core lies the mysterious death of James's cousin on a hunting expedition fifteen years before, led by charismatic Starky Willis-the very man now employing Verity. Convinced that Starky is involved in a poaching operation, Verity's investigative instincts compel her to seek the truth.
But as she pursues her suspicions, she's unaware that James is conducting his own covert investigation back in Maun, uncovering a plot far more sinister than either of them imagined. With her dreams shattered and her love for James waning after years of sacrifice, Verity finds herself isolated and in danger. As the truth unravels and lives hang in the balance, the couple must confront not only the deadly secrets of the African wilderness but also the fractures in their own relationship. In a land where the line between hunter and hunted blurs, Verity and James must fight to expose the truth, salvage their love, and survive the unforgiving African bush. "Whispers in the Kalahari" is a standalone romantic suspense that blends the sweeping romance of "Out of Africa" with the heart-pounding tension of "The Constant Gardener." For fans of Beverley Harper and Samantha Ford who love second-chance love stories set against breathtaking African landscapes, dangerous secrets, and edge-of-your-seat thrills.

À propos des auteurs

Beverley Oakley was seventeen when she bundled up her first her 500+ page romance and sent it to a publisher. Unfortunately drowning her heroine on the last page was apparently not in line with the expectations of romance readers so Beverley became a journalist. Twenty-six years later Beverley was delighted to receive her first publishing contract from Robert Hale (UK) for a romance in which she ensured her heroine was saved from drowning in the icy North Sea.
Since 2009 Beverley has written more than thirteen historical romances, mostly set in England during the early nineteenth century. Mystery, intrigue and adventure spill from their pages and if she can pull off a thrilling race to save someone's honour - or a worthy damsel from the noose - it's time to celebrate with a good single malt Scotch. Beverley lives with her husband, two daughters and a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy the size of a pony opposite a picturesque nineteenth century lunatic asylum.
She also writes Africa-set adventure-filled romances tarring handsome bush pilot heroes, and historical romances with less steam and more sexual tension, as Beverley Eikli.
