Résumé

Three stories from the early years of Roy Harper, before he became a well known traveler and philosopher. In the Outlaw Trail, Roy is six years old and transplanted to Texas when his family goes broke. He is on his own and miserable until he meets an old Indian named Joe, who promises to teach him the secrets of his people. This should be the best year ever. In Hoosier Dreams, Roy's family moves back to Indiana to the old home place.
This presents a whole new series of challenges and opportunities. His encounter with the hobos gives him a new outlook on the meaning of freedom and a new (and wider) perspective on life. In The Gangsters Apprentice, Roy is as green as they come when he first arrives in Chicago at age ten, but with Sal's help he learns fast. He grows up in fast company and before long he's a foot soldier in the rackets.
Even the police can't keep him out of the city and back in Indiana.

À propos de l'auteur

Biographie de Waran Payce

Waran Payce has been writing all his life; everything from grant proposals, which are a mixture of fiction and non-fiction, to course curriculum, to song lyrics, to short stories. He is old enough to have had a draft lottery number (he chose not to go), and young enough to remember what it was in seventy-two, (fourteen). An avid reader since he learned how, he was inspired at an early age by Kerouac's classic "On the Road", and chose to emulate Dean Moriarity's madness.
The following forty-some years have been an unending parade of new locations, new job titles and new wives. In the early eighties he sold all his belongings and moved to Belize, where he pursued a Gilligan life-style with the intention of staying forever. The attorney general had other ideas, so he returned to California. He ran unsuccessfully for President against Ronald Reagan while living in Texas, and taught at a tech school in Tennessee.
He currently lives in a canyon outside Stone City, CO.
