Résumé

Advanced Organic Chemistry: Reaction Mechanisms is for students and professionals who want to learn organic chemistry through an approach that is both systematic and easy to remember. Reaction mechanisms are presented with meticulous precision and, whenever possible, are illustrated using practical, useful, and modern reactions. By following this mechanistic-synthetic approach the reader will encounter an abundance of stereoselective reactions, learn the foundations of stereochemistry, and become acquainted with novel concepts such as reagent control of stereoselectivity and transition metal catalysis. The mechanisms themselves are presented in this context, but also with an emphasis on rate laws and substituent effects. The book's two-colored artwork ensures easy understanding. Far example, the curved red "electron shift" arrows allow the reader to follow each reaction in detail, ie, elementary step by elementary step. All topics covered are marked either "fundamental" or "advanced." Fundamental sections comprise about 70% of the book and address the needs of upper-level undergraduates, while the advanced sections are intended for graduate-level audiences. This book is an essential addition to the reference desks of chemistry majors and chemistry professionals alike. Moreover, it will serve well ambitions students in chemistry-related fields such as biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, and chemical engineering.
