Résumé

A triumphant return to fiction after nearly two decades, Chris Offutt's critically acclaimed Country Dark has reintroduced his vital and absolutely distinct voice to the upper echelons of the. American literary landscape. In rural Kentucky, Tucker, a young veteran, returns home from the Korean War to work for a bootlegger. On the way, he rescues Rhonda. They quickly fall in love and build a life together, and while they don't have much, they have the love of their home and each other.
But when his family is threatened, Tucker is pushed into violence, which changes everything. The story of people living off the land and by their wits in a backwoods Kentucky world of shine-runners and laborers, Country Dark is a taut, compelling novel about a good man forced by circumstance into crime.
