Résumé

New technology has revolutionalised the way business is carried out. It has substantially changed the structure of organisations, leading to a greater degree of autonomy for the workforce. This is having a major impact on the profile of the new European workforce - the "knowledge workers". A modern technological worker is a self-managing person who possesses, what can be termed, a "self-learning competency".
As learning is increasingly being seen by the successful companies as a major strategic weapon, the new enterprise will be a self-learning organisation. This book contains the results of a European-wide study on innovative approaches to self-learning. It presents a series of insights on a critical issue by : - examining ways in which European Educational and Training Systems can play a role in fostering a highly competent and lifelong learning workforce, and - outlining strategies which can be used by the management of enterprises to bring about the reality of self-learning organisations, which in turn can contribute to a European Self-Learning Community coming into being.
It is essential reading for all those who wish to understand and influence future trends in the world of Human Resource Development.
