Résumé

Black women have asserted their humanity and beauty in the face of social, cultural and political adversity. But for every new milestone, every magazine cover, every box-office record smashed, the reality of everyday life remains a very complex, nuanced and contradiction-laden experience. In a collection of essays, Kenya Hunt, an award-winning writer, reflects on what it means to be a Black woman in our time.
Part memoir, part celebration of womanhood and Blackness, Girl is about thriving when the odds are stacked against you. Alongside Kenya's story, Candice Carty-Williams, Jessica Horn, Ebele Okobi, Funmi Fetto and Freddie Harrel add their unique voices and perspectives. Moving, uncompromising and powerful, Girl explores Black excellence, joy, loss, motherhood, and the impact of discrimination against the backdrop of social media.
Its stories explore how Black women advocate for each other in a world that consistently does not — while also speaking to all women, regardless of race, in the universal search for purpose in an ever-changing world.
