Biographie de CHARRAS M.
Born in 1942, Marc PAIN holds the agrégation and a doctorat ès lettres, and has been Professor of Geography at the University of Paris X - Nanterre since 1981. His studies have focussed on the questions of development and transformations in tropical regions which lie has had the opportunity of observing during extended stays in Africa and Asia. Following a period as Assistant Professor at the University of Toulouse le Mirail, he lived in Zaire from 1971 to 1981. Co-author and editor of the Atlas of Kinshasa, the first urban atlas produced in the Third World, his doctoral thesis was devoted to the capital of Zaire. Assigned to ORSTOM from 1985 to 1991, he was responsible for the research programmes undertaken by the institute at the Ministry of Transmigration in Indonesia and more especially studied the development of the southern part of Sumatra.
Muriel CHARRAS is responsible for research at the National Centre for Scientific Research, in the South-East Asia and Austronesian Region Laboratory (LASEMA, UPR 297). She has completed several long missions in Indonesia which she has selected as the location for her research since 1973. Her doctoral thesis "From Evil Forest to Heavenly Grass" investigates the settlement of the Balinese, both transmigrants and spontaneous migrants, in Sulawesi. With an interest in regional analysis, she subsequently undertook research on the development of the spatial organisation in several provinces of the archipelago, and collaborated in the urban studies of the LIPI. She compiled the section "Indonesia" of the Universal Geography (Reclus, France).
Né à Paris en 1942, agrégé de l'Université, docteur ès lettres, Marc PAIN est professeur de géographie à l'Université de Paris X - Nanterre depuis 1981. Ses travaux sont centrés sur les questions de développement et sur les mutations du monde tropical qu'il a pu observer pendant de longs séjours en Afrique et en Asie. Après avoir été assistant à l'Université de Toulouse le Mirail, il a vécu au Zaïre de 1971 à 1981. Couteur et responsable de la publication de l'Atlas de Kinshasa, premier atlas urbain réalisé dans le Tiers Monde, sa thèse est consacrée à la capitale du Zaïre. Détaché auprès de l'ORSTOM de 1985 à 1991, il a dirigé en Indonésie les programmes de recherche entrepris par l'institut au Ministère de la Transmigration et plus particulièrement étudié l'évolution du sud de Sumatra.
Mariel CHARRAS est chargée de recherche au Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, au sein du Laboratoire Asie du Sud Est et Monde austronésien (LASEMA, UPR 297). Elle a effectué plusieurs séjours de longue durée en Indonésie qu'elle a choisi comme centre de ses recherches depuis 1973. Sa thèse de doctorat "De la forêt maléfique à l'herbe divine" rend compte de 1'implantation des Balinais, transmigrants et migrants spontanés, à Sulawesi. Intéressée par l'analyse régionale, elle a ensuite entrepris des recherches sur l'évolution de l'organisation de l'espace dans plusieurs provinces de l'archipel et participé aux études urbaines du LIPI. Elle a rédigé la partie "Indonésie" de la Géographie Universelle (Reclus, France).
