pool Architekten : The Zurich-based architectural practice pool Architekten was formed in 1994 as a platform for workshops and debates on architecture and urban planning. Practical work as an architectural collective began in 1996 which led to the founding of pool Architekten Genossenschaft with eight partners in 1998. The fortunes of pool are guided by our 10 partners Dieter Bachmann, Floris Besserer, Raphael Frei, Thomas Friberg, Mathias Heinz, Philipp Hirtler, David Leuthold, Andreas Sonderegger, Mischa Spoerri, and Matthias Stocker, joined by our six associates Bettina Komminoth, Danijela Jovicic, Maja Markovic, Martin Gutekunst, Martin Trefon, and Peter Wassmer.
For 20 years now, pool has attracted attention by virtue of its interdisciplinary and undogmatic approach. Areas of particular focus include residential development, schools, sports facilities, and urban planning. In 2014, pool Architekten received the prestigious Grand Prix Kunst / Prix Meret Oppenheim from the Swiss Federal Office of Culture. To complement our built work, our partners have worked over the past 10 years as instructors and professors at a variety of institutions of higher learning, among them the ETH Zurich, the technical universities in Berlin and Vienna, Liechtenstein University, and the technical colleges in Winterthur, Lucerne, and Burgdorf.
