Annie is, after all, the proud owner of a hillside cottage (though its roof is about to fall in, thanks to the efforts of some hungry woodbeetles), while her neighbours are called the Spring Onions and believe that they are the rightful owners of a village called Goat Number One. Still, finding herself in the middle of the night with Ciccio, the local culinary superstar, mincing tomatoes into passata, then being asked out on a date that involves an afternoon of slapping cow manure on to an old pizza oven does make her wonder. How long does she have to stay before it all becomes normal run-of the-mill stuff and cesses to amaze her ? Will she ever manage to go native ?
