Lu Rile is a relentlessly focused young photographer at a point of desperation. Struggling to make ends meet, she works three jobs, cares for her aging father, and worries that the crumbling warehouse she lives in will soon be sold to developers. One day, in the background of a self-portrait, Lu accidentally takes a picture of a boy falling past her window. The image turns out to be startlingly gorgeous, the best work of art she's ever made.
It could change her life . .. if she lets it. The decision to show the devastating photograph is not easy. The boy was her neighbors' son, and his death brings all the building's residents together, especially Lu and the beautiful, grieving mother, Kate. As the two forge an intense bond based on sympathy, loneliness, and a budding attraction, Lu feels torn between equally fierce desires : to launch her career and to protect her friend.
