Résumé

Paris, 1939 : Odile Souchet has her dream job at the American Library in Paris. But when the Nazis march into the city, Odile stands to lose everything she holds dear, including her beloved library. Odile, her family and her friends are all forced to test their courage and make impossible choices against equally impossible odds. These decisions, big and small, will put some of them on the wrong side of history as they live with devastating consequences haunting them forever.
Montana, 1983 : Lily is desperate to escape her small-town life in Montana and grows close to her reclusive elderly neighbour, Odile. As the lives of Odile and Lily are woven together through their shared love of language and longings, they discover a dark secret from the past connects them. Inspired by the true story of the librarians at the American Library in Paris who risked their lives Nazis' war on words : a story of courage, and betrayal in Occupied Paris.
