The Portrait

Vengeance is an art. It is the turn of the twentieth century and on the windswept isle of Houat lives Henry MacAlpine, a feted artist who once exhibited alongside Cézanne and Van Gogh. But this is no picturesque artists' colony life on the island off the coast of Brittany is harsh. The reclusive MacAlpine has a rare visitor; art critic William Naysmith. He has come to sit for a portrait. And as the painter struggles to capture the likeness of his "old friend" a twisted story is revealed, full of macabre detail, rendered in the deepest, bloody shades of love, death and betrayal...
